finger foods with protein

I'm trying to think of some new finger foods with protein for DC. These days she eats a variety of cheeses, ground meat (hamburger or meatballs), shredded chicken. Are there others that your DC enjoys? I'm trying to stay away from high sodium foods like processed meats. Thank you!

Our son loves firm tofu cut into cubes. I also scramble an egg with some cheese in it.

Canned beans (look for no-salt added) -- black, pinto, kidney and black eyed peas -- serve with fruit or some other source of Vitamin C to help with the absorption of plant-based iron.

Whole-wheat pasta -- higher in protein than the usual white pasta.

Don't know the age of your DC or sophistication of palate but....

Hard boiled eggs
if nut allergies aren't an issue and she's old enough, nuts
peanut butter on wheat crackers
search online for protein bar recipes that are kid-friendly
Peanut butter or Bean dip or cream cheese for dipping veggies or crackers
Checkout the vegan/vegetarian meat substitutes at your grocery store--for some variety in the "meat" choices. There's some yummy stuff in there! (meatballs, franks, etc)
Falafel
Hummus for dipping
Good luck!

Agree that tofu and beans are fabulous. I buy the Eden Organics canned beans because it's the only brand that uses BPA-free cans, in case you are interested.

My 10 month old likes Salmon filet (no bones in the filet) and it's rich in Omegas.

Are beans easily chokable? My ds does pretty well with most finger foods, but I keep hesitating on the beans because they look like they'd fit in her windpipe. No?

I don't know about generally, but for DD they are fine. She's been eating them since fairly early - I want to say maybe 8 months or so? If you are worried, though, you can always cut them in half.

We have been doing toast fingers topped with fresh ricotta, and my ten-month old loves it. I usually mix in another flavor -- roasted red pepper, squash, something green. I have also done organic chicken sausages cut into pieces. They have no nitrates, etc., but I hadn't thought about the sodium so we might be done with that!

PP, let us know! I also do chicken sausages. For some reason the spinach and feta ones have a lot less sodium than the others at whole foods (italian, apple, etc). On beans, I suppose they could be a choking hazard but so are Cheerios! If your LO knows how to bite/chew, at some point you have to just let them try; just dont leave the room while they're eating! I used to cut grapes in half, until the time we were having a picnic and while I was trying to cut them with a plastic knife, DS just grabbed them and started eating. He was about 11 MOs at the time. Now I think about what he can really chew with no molars, but as far as bites I dont worry.

I also do deli turkey from whole foods (no nitrates, low sodium). And chicken breast, cooked tender, with various flavorings or marinades. And I am always trying different forms of ground meat: turkey and beef meatballs, meatloaf, burgers, different flavorings in the burgers (bbq sauce, sloppy joe sauce, etc). Considering he had nothing but breastmilk for the first 5 months of his life, this is good living already!
