IUI or IVF

We are in the middle of the TWW of our 1st IUI, and I'm crossing my fingers (and toes) that it works. We have MF issues as well as my PCOS. We have gone to a urologist and my husband has a varicocele--the ur. recommended trying IVF 1st and fixing the vein after we have our first child. Well, our RE wanted to try an IUI first to see how his sperm did with the washing--it wasn't great (7 mil post wash). We have another appt with her next week to discuss options....should we push for IVF instead of another IUI (if this IUI doesn't work)?

Here's the thing, insurance isn't covering ANYTHING, so we're paying out of pocket. What would you do?

IVF -all of my friends with male factor had luck on their first IVFs after having no luck on IUIs.

I was the issue in our fertility journey, and IVF helped us in that we knew much more about egg quality and some other issues with one cycle of IVF.

We also have MF issues. IUIs did not work for us and I got pregnant through IVF (though not on the first cycle). Your best-case chance of getting pregnant on an IUI is only about 15%, whereas it is about 60% with IVF. I think we were told our chance of getting pregnant through IUI was even a little lower than that due to the MF issues (our post-wash count was about 4.5 million total motile sperm). IVF is expensive and scary but your chances of getting pregnant are way higher. You might also look into a shared risk program if one is offered by your clinic.
