I've noticed over the last decade that there are a number of very expensive new homes being built just north and south of Columbia Pike, east of South George Mason Drive.
For those living in the $1M+ homes, where are they sending their elementary school age children to school? The local public elementary schools such as Hoffman-Boston, Randolph, Henry, etc? Private schools? Homeschooling? Just curious. |
Many send their children to option schools and parochial schools. |
Arlington Heights, Penrose—Fleet
Arlington View—HB Douglas Park—Drew, Randolph, parochial |
I used to work at Randolph and there were a handful of the wealthier kids, especially in the younger grades. I was always surprised at how many older/childless people were living in Douglas Park, even in the newly renovated/rebuilt homes. |
Fleet is a great school with a mix of income levels. |
We were one of those families- have since moved. We opted for Campbell. |
We also were at one of those schools and went private, as did several neighbors. |
Hoffman Boston and Fleet are decent schools. We were re-zoned to Drew and went private. |
In our immediate neighborhood, which is townhomes in the 500k range, not $1 million homes, so take that as you will - of the kids in k-3 that we know: 2 go to Montessori Public School; 2 go to Drew; 2 to Campbell; 2 to parochial; 2 to other private; 1 homeschool. |
I live in new construction south of 50 near Columbia pike.
We send our kids to private school but I’d say about half the families in new 1.2M+ houses near the pike send their kids to the local public. I hear very good things about Barcroft Elementary in particular. |
I'm zoned for Drew and send my kid there. Many other parents send their kids to Montessori. Two go private.
For what it's worth, my kid's education at drew has been excellent. The test score are awful, I get that, but his teachers are wonderful. His classmates are wonderful. He's learning a ton. |
+1. Also zoned for Drew, also attend, very pleased with it. |
So the insinuation is that nice houses are out of place in those areas and thus, they must be making non-local school choices the down-trodden areas?
Pretty snobby. |
Montessori
Campbell Catholic |
That’s the entire reason the option elementary schools exist. |
