Middle Schools for Cap Hill

Trying to work on the lotto.

Inbound for Eliot, definitely want a better option.

What would you rank?

ITS

Options:

Stuart-Hobson
Basis
ITS
Jefferson

I'd probably rank ITS first, then Basis, then SH. I probably would not rank Jefferson because that is a hike for a school that I don't really consider a much better option than SH or EH. I am not a huge fan of the Basis philosophy and know some kids who were very academic and hardworking who still did not enjoy it there, so I'd prefer the ITS approach. Plus my kid is very arts-focused. I know people would definitely rank Basis first.

What about Latin 1 and Latin 2?

I don't know why you would go to Jefferson when Eliot-Hine is closer.

ITS is pretty easy to get into for middle so be careful, if you rank it first you may not waitlist anywhere else at all.

Two Rivers?

I would take EH over Jefferson.

Is this for 5th or 6th?

I'd rank these but not consider them real options because you are very unlikely to get in.

There has to be some chance at Latin 2, they are filling the whole class with no siblings.

That's funny -- I'd rank ITS last in that group, and would put Latin 2 near the top. Agree with other posters on EH over Jefferson

Latin / Basis / SH / Latin 2 / ITS / 2R / Stick w/ EH

I'd cut 2 of the following and then order based on your preferences--different choices depending on whether you prioritize test scores, commute, size of school, path through high school, athletics, etc...

Latin 1
Latin 2
BASIS
SH
ITDS
Jefferson
DCI-Spanish
DCI-French
DCI-Chinese
SWW @ FS
Cap City
2 Rivers
Truth
Hardy

I think I'd pick any of these over EH.

OP hasn’t told us whether this is for 5th or 6th. Many of these schools don’t start til 6th. Others only accept in 5th.

Impossible to chime in without such essential info.

Latin 1
BASIS
Latin 2
SH
Hardy

That’s all we are ranking.

How has Jefferson Academy been this year? DS says he wants to go. (He's in fourth now.) I'm trying to convince him to play lottery for charters.

(Not the OP.)
