| I am a pretty big lady. 5'7" and 235 pounds. I knew I was big but it was not until my vitals came back pretty sketchy yesterday that I realized I needed to make some serious life changes NOW for the sake of my health. I'm using Myfitnesspal and trying to aim for 1800ish calories a day and adding a lot more fruit and veg. Today was the first day I started with this. All day at work I just felt...out of it. Sort of dizzy, kind of shaky, almost like a mildly drunk feeling. Is this a "shock to the system" type thing? Like my body experiencing sugar withdrawals/crap food withdrawals after stuffing my face with junk day after day year after year? |
|
Your body is shocked and going into starvation mode. You’ll adjust but you may consider and wind down to your target calorie intake instead of a shock to your system.
Good luck!! I hope you reach your health and weight goals. |
|
You are not going into starvation mode in one day!
Maybe low blood sugar, though, depending on what and when you were eating. |
breakfast: English muffin with cream cheese 1 cup grapes, 1/2 strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries 2 eggs I felt shaky by the time I got to work. |
| What was your typical breakfast before you made the change? |
I can't post it here for fear of judgment.
jk. usually a bagel with cream cheese, smoothie with frozen strawberries, banana, a cup of vanilla yogurt, half cup of milk. then I would stop at Starbucks and get a white chocolate mocha and a butter croissant and pumpkin loaf. |
Ok- I would lose the grapes since they have a lot of sugar and not much fiber. Add more berries if you like. And swap out the cream cheese. It’s so processed and has no nutritional value. A slice of cheddar at least has calcium and protein. |
Um how did you eat this and only top out at 235 |
really? I always thought cream cheese was a pretty decent thing to add more protein/fat to breakfast. and ok. I'll probably just do strawberries and blueberries then. You guys are helpful! THANKS!! |
235 and counting, haha. but I'm not sure. |
| OP was that really your breakfast every day? That has to be about 1800 calories for breakfast alone. It’s going to be very very hard to go to 1800 per day immediately and may not be sustainable. |
|
Op you can definitely eat 2000 calls, maybe 2200 or even more. If you cut too much your body will really resist the change and your hunger hormones will go into overdrive. At 2000+ cals you can have decent sized meals plus one or two treats per day and it can be sustainable.
Start a little higher so you have room to cut as you lose weight. You may only lose barely a pound per week but you’ll be able to continue much longer. I was able to drop weight on 2000-2200 per day this year and I weighed a little less than you. |
|
Op you may want to test /monitor your blood sugar. It sounds like reactive hypoglycemia (maybe all the fruit and white bread) but you should probably know if you have insulin issues now.! I’ve been wearing a continuous blood glucose monitor as part of a nutrition/diet education program.
Monitor and shocked how high my sugar gets on what I think if as low sugar meals (tonight was a sautéed turkey cutlet, 1/2 c wild rice, salad, sautéed mushrooms, kombucha). More broadly Your eating habits (like those of most Americans) are set to you up for metabolic diseases (diabetes and heart disease). So while losing weight is a nice my goal would be to improve health Markers. I would focus in high fiber moderate fat and protein , low sugar.. your breakfast tweaked: Two eggs, whole grain bread with almond butter or just butter and strawberries. But obviously it’s already an improvement from your regular habits. I’d move toward time restricted eating to get your insulin sensitivity in track. Start with minimum 12 hours overnight (stop a couple hours before bed) and work up from there. Instead of cutting calories right off, maybe just start with cutting refined sugar and refined flour products? (That willl cut calories but you do t have to count and the bonus is you’re eating for health). |
I would feel shaky as well if I ate all those carbs in one sitting. Try the 2 eggs, 1/2 cup blueberries, handful of almonds, and 16 oz water.. |
| It sounds like maybe blood sugar issues OP. I get this and have to divide calories into smaller snacks with a protein and carb throughout the day. |
