I wan to make mushroom soup. I’m using whole baby portabellas. The sell by date is 1/27. The mushrooms are still firm but some of them have spots that feel slimy (not the whole mushrooms but spots). Color looks good, smell is fine, some of the tips of the stems are dark brown (can’t remember if that normal).
Would you use them? |
| Probably for soup... Make it today or freeze them though. |

No way. I don't fw mushrooms once they get a bit of slime on them.
My dad is a retired food microbiologist and he taught us to never use a bad mushroom and always throw out any cooked food with mushrooms in it after 2 days. |
| I would cut the spots off, rinse well, and use. |

I would cut the spots off and use them, but i would eat the soup within a day or two, or freeze instantly anything i couldn’t finish in a day or two
I also would NOT rinse then. Damp paper towel to wipe them clean and that’s it - otherwise they get waterlogged and soggy |
| OP here. I made the soup and we ate it that evening and the leftovers the next day. All good, nobody got sick. |
