This seems to me like a huge red flag, but are my expectations too high? Do mix ups like this happen even at good daycares, or should I pull my baby immediately? When we pointed out The long gap between feedings, no explanation was given, and it wasn’t because she was sleeping or anything like that. |
What age? |
Wow!! I’d be livid. They need to be reported. Be sure to record all details.
Any other red flags? |
I would pull my baby. A daycare should have several overlapping procedures to prevent that from happening. And the fact that they couldn't explain it (and perhaps don't feel they should have to) would be almost as big of an issue as the original mistake.
The bare minimum for a daycare is that they keep your child fed, clean, and safe from the elements. Like bare, bare minimum. |
WHAT
AGE ? |
Is it possible it's just a recordkeeping error? |
“Baby” means not yet a toddler, so a year or less? In any case, five hours is outrageous. Do you have other options, OP? |
I want to know too, but honestly even if it's 18 months this is egregious. Five hours is a long time. It's worse if the baby is an infant, but it's not like I'd be cool if they just forgot to give my 18 mo old lunch either. |
Do you know this for sure or did they just forget to record a feeding. Because that happens a lot.
It’s not that they didn’t feed your child but that they forgot to write it down. |
I know parents who literally call their 2-year-olds their "baby," so I think this is important information. We're talking about pulling a child out of daycare, so let's get all the information, yes? |
WTF!
Yes, time to find a new daycare. I would pull immediately and ask your work to be flexible with you in the interim. This is a huge red flag. |
Baby is 6 months old. It was not a record-keeping error unless they offered a bottle and she refused it entirely because they sent home a completely full bottle. I have been calling other centers all day and may have a few options. None of the alternatives are ideal, but they will at least hopefully be able to feed my child regularly. I just wanted to make sure this issue isn't common enough that we're likely to encounter it everywhere before making a switch. DH and I may have to take some leave to fill in time before an opening becomes available. |
How long do you think it’s ok for a TWO year old to go without food at daycare? |
ABSOLUTELY leave, and then report them. |
Is this a daycare center with a director, or a home-based operation with only one caregiver?
If it's a center, I would talk to the director before I bailed. If he or she falls all over herself to apologize, facilitates a meeting with the room staff, etc., there may be some room to feel safe going forward. If it was a home-based operation, I'd report them and never show up again. Thank you for finally answering the very important information about how old the baby is. For future reference, please provide all crucial details in your original post when you're asking for advice on a really significant matter. |
