Infertility Support and Discussion
| Hi, does anyone know in the Washington, DC area a Doctor that would test for NKC? I have a blood clotting disorder MTHFR that made me lose my daughter at 31 weeks. I have been doing IVF Donor at SGF and can not get pregnant now, though I had an early M/C as well after my daughter. Before doing anymore IVF I need to find this out if there is something with implantation. SGF does not believe in any of this. I know there are DRs out west but I would hope there would be a DR here? Thanks alot. |

sorry to hear about your losses. what meds did SG put you on for MTHFR and during your donor egg cycles?
just this last week i had a talk with my RE at SG about immune tests. they do not believe in it, consider the treatment very controversial, and strictly follow ASRM guidelines, which do not validate immune issues. i don't know about drs in the dc area, but dr. davis at cornell does work with a reproductive immunlogist dr. jonathan scher in ny. according to dr. davis, he has not seen enough data to believe that immune treatment works. he told me that it has worked for some of his patients and not for others. in fact, even for the patients it worked, he is not sure if it was the immune treatment or just that it was their time. i'd be curious to know if anyone on this board has been treated by drs in the dc area for immune issues. |
| OP: Yes SGF does not believe in it but my blood clotting issue is what caused me to lose my baby, I found a DR at Yale that does research on stillborn babies and I clearly had clotts in the placenta and in her cord. It makes me made that they don't test you for that before hand. If I had been on Lovenox I would probably have a 19month old baby now. So with that said SGF is allowing me to take Lovenox at day of transfer, plus extra folic acid and B12 and B6. I also saw a high-risk DR after this happened as well. I just need to know why I can't get pregnant now. Though my last donor did not do well and I had a 6 day transfer which is not the best. Thanks for your help. |

Dr. Abbasi at CFA considers immune issues and consults with Dr. Carolyn Coulam, a reproductive immunology specialist in Chicago. Dr. Abbasis believes in clotting issues and will proscribe daily lovenox injections commencing upon transfer if she thinks that clotting is an issue.
There is a yahoo group immunologysupport@yahoogroups.com which you may find useful. We have some immune issues also, but of a different type. |
| I was a patient of Dr. Abbasi's a number of years ago and she did address this issue with me, I had a number of other problems as well but endometriosis was one of them and she felt it was related to some of the immune issues. And I have had two children under her care, despite PCOS, endo, immune issues, low response to injectibles ... you name it. |
| I think SIRM will deal with immune issues as well. You may also want to check out the book "Coming to Term" about miscarriage and how difficult it is to figure out what is going on/what causes them. So sorry about your loss. |
| Do you know what kind of MTHFR? Hetero/Homo A/C??? |
| I went to Dr. Scher in NYC after 3 m/c's last year, now I am on his protocol and going through IVF w/PGD at SG. Keeping my fingers crossed. |
