| Are there any former MCPS teachers on here who now teach in FCPS or PGCPS? Wondering if the move was a positive one? How is your experience different from MCPS? |
|
I left FCPS for MCPS and while MCPS has many of the same problems that are endemic to most school systems—like FCPS and PGPS—MCPS is definitely better than FCPS. Obviously your principal and administration will have a large impact on your experience as a teacher, but overall, being part of a union has helped IMMENSELY.
I used to have to stay after contract hours to tutor and volunteer for no extra pay whatsoever even though it was not in my contract. It was just “expected.” You still have to tutor and volunteer to staff student events in MCPS, but the number of hours and events is outlined in your contract. |
| If you're new in mcps you will be pushed to inflate the grades and deal with behaviors while admin will blame everything on the new teacher like your hiring created all the problems. Alot of bullying of teachers to get to the enhanced grade inflation. We teachers need to leave the profession until we are respected as professionals. |
| I have found the union gives no protection and when they non renew your contract they let you go through recycling bins to make your portfolio out of trash for the board members judging you. It was so degrading. As I made my 10 binders and stayed until 8 at night thinking my union office had respect for teachers ,I was nonrenewed they lied about to the unemployment offices to block state benefits. There really is no help for teachers. |
| So I switched to getting out of teaching because the climate is not getting better, the work load is not getting lighter, the classroom behavior is not getting better, the amount of grade inflation is not the exception the the majority rule etc. We teachers will never get respect until we demand it and leave the bastards ( admin and union) high and dry. |
| I think it's common for PGCPS teachers to switch to MoCo public schools for a a few years, then return to PGCPS at a higher pay level. |
| Staff will have the same stressors in both districts. They both have much pressure to inflate and fudge data which they put on the teachers. My guess is they also have the same behaviors problems because students get rewarded with inflated grades for absence, fighting, and just not doing the work. It's a reason for teachers to leave the profession but admin will bully if you don't agree with rewarding anti ed practices that are bad for morale. |
