Graduating?

What is the process for graduating from RE to OBGYN? I'm only at 6 weeks but am a planner by nature and have read that my OBGYN is hard to schedule with and no ultrasounds until week 12... what happens in between? when do I first need to call to schedule?

My clinic keeps patients until 12 weeks. BTW IVF pregnancies have higher risk of ectopic and SCH so ignore any non-IVF person (including the scheduler at your OB) telling you you don't need early ultrasounds.

Are you with GW MFA? Don't call the scheduling line. Tomorrow call their number and follow the prompts to the triage nurse. In your message state that you are 6 weeks pregnant after fertility treatments and have questions about transferring to your OB there. If you have a history of losses, make sure to mention that. I was able to get a first trimester appointment with my OB that way. Good luck.

Thank you!! Yes GW MFA- this is very helpful- have my first ultrasound tomorrow at RE tomorrow and anxious that there will be a empty sac or no heartbeat (last pregnancy was a miscarriage before 6 weeks) so have been holding off calling so far but will do this-- thank you!

I think I switched over at 8 weeks? Did a 6 week US and then at the 8 said I looked good and referred me to an OB who did a 12 week scan. I will say if you have a preferred doctor to make the 12 week appointment now. I had originally wanted to go to Bloom but by the time I called they were full. I ended up being very happy where I went instead so it didn’t matter, just something to consider!

Shady Grove sent us off after the 6 week and 8-week ultrasound. The OB did the 12-week scan.

Get your 12 week appt on the books now for NIPT and NT scan (if you are over 35 or have a history of loss)

I graduated at 9 weeks and at 10.5 weeks and had my US and NIPT bloodwork done at my first OB appt.

Graduated at 8 weeks and had my first OB visit at 11 weeks. I did ask my RE to see me one more time at 9 weeks to help calm my nerves. She did and it definitely helped with the gap between the last RE and first OB appointment. Call as soon as you can and get on your OB's schedule though - schedules are pretty booked up.

just wanted to update that i called GWU to schedule and they proactively scheduled me an ultrasound at 10.5 weeks for "viability" check (seeing my RE at 8 weeks and 1 day) and set me up with a MFM for my first trimester visit due to history of miscarriage-- relieved to hear they took it seriously (and my RE had said he could see me longer if they weren't going to see me prior to 12 weeks but sounds like that wont be much of an issue.

Glad to hear this, OP. I'm the PP who recommended talking to triage nurse to get scheduled. Is that how you got these appointments?

Yesish-- I initially tried to, left a voicemail with triage nurse, and then they left a voicemail asking me to call back the scheduling line.

I think my OB graduates for most when the HR is 130 or above

*RE graduates you to the OB

I had ultrasounds at 6w and then again at 8w with SGF, then graduated to a CNM practice, and first appointment with them was 10.5 weeks to schedule NIPT and NT scan.

This business of OBs not scheduling until 12w is absolutely bonkers to me. I had an ectopic in between my 2 successful pregnancies. It was from an FET, so thankfully I was being closely monitored at the time and it was caught very early, before I even had any symptoms. I hate to think of how that would’ve gone if I wasn’t scheduled to be seen until nearly the end of the first trimester.
