What is the status of the Days Inn on Connecticut these days?

It is not a COVID quarantine site still? Is it operating as a hotel again?

Was this shooting involving hotel guests or neighbors?

Four women were shot, one fatally, early Thursday in a hotel on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington, according to a D.C. police spokesman.

The spokesman said the shootings occurred at a Days Inn in the 4400 block of Connecticut Ave., near the University of the District of Columbia and a few blocks from the Van Ness Metro station.

Dustin Sternbeck, a D.C. police spokesman, said the shootings occurred about 3:30 a.m. He said a woman was found dead inside a room and another woman was found injured in a hallway.

It's operating as a city shelter for the homeless.

Are you sure about this. Aren't we always claiming that Ward 3 does not have any homeless shelters? Isn't that Days Inn right down the street from their main commercial area?

I am surprised that Days Inn has found it necessary to enter that kind of contracted business model. I guess hotel occupancy must still be suffering.

The response from Mary Cheh will look something like this. Just exchange car-jacking task force with violence interrupter task force:

MPD continues to work to address street crime in the District and Ward 3, including through its car-jacking task force, which has resulted in the arrest of dozens of individuals since its implementation, as well as the license plate reader program, which assists in identifying vehicles of interest. Although there have been some more high-profile incidents recently in the Ward, the vast majority of crime in the Ward is low-level non-violent offenses, such as shoplifting or theft from autos. And, based on DC Crime data, over the last 5 years, total crime in Ward 3 is actually down, from 9,413 incidents from July 2011 – July 2016, to 8,723 incidents from July 2016 – July 2021. All violent crime in Ward 3 is down over the last five years as well (from 469 to 374). We continue to work with Commander Bedlion and our 2nd District officers to combat all criminal activity in the Ward.
