Scary stuff on how are schools are profoundly failing our kids. I knew it was bad, but didn't realize the extent. Just wondering if anyone else has read this book.

Schools need improvement, but this book is off. |
Care to elaborate? |
They went on too much about the US overuse of memorization, which has actually been noted as a weakness here, in that we don't ask our kids to memorize enough. Seems like the authors are big on the progressive approach, and I am not, so the book rubs me wrong. |
I think that regardless of whether we memorize enough or not, we are definitely focused on content learning rather than skills learning. There is very little in today's curriculum that helps teach our kids to think critically. What good is it if a child knows the dates of WWII but can't rationally explain how we might have prevented it in the first place? |
