I see tons of kids at my daughter's preschool wearing crocs, and I like them for ease of putting on/taking off and the fact that they're waterproof and can be easily cleaned, but I heard somewhere that they're not good for little one's feet. DOes anyone know? |
I have crocs (so I'm not a hater) but I just don't understand why people buy them for kids. They are not that supportive, mine get slippery when my feet sweat and most the kids I see wearing them either trip a lot or are constantly having to put them back on.
Maybe for an older child...5+? |
My preschooler's friends all have them and do fine but my little one falls all over the place in them. It's the darndest thing.... |
My 2.5 yo has them and she walks/runs just fine in them... though we still wear sneakers for places like the park. |
My boys live in their crocs. That said, I doubt they are the best shoes for a kid. 3 yo seems okay to me, but depends on the child. If your child is comfortable in them, then go ahead. If not or if they seem restrictive, go for something else. |
They are not allowed at my son's preshool and I would never buy them. They just need a good pair of sneakers at this age with some good support. |
My son wears them ALL THE TIME. He can run around in them just fine. He loves them and they are so easy!
I can't imagine they are that bad. Heck, I hardly ever wore shoes growing up. In my culture kids don't wear shoes that often. You even see them in public places like restaurants without shoes. We went back home and saw a few kids without them in the airport (which I think is gross!). It can't be all that bad, my country turns out world class athletes and runners....one female olympian that caused quite a stir because she really was probably a man-South Africa. |
I'd be worried about safety, remember all the crocs in escalator injuries? Why chance it with a small kid.

I was a crocs hater but just bought them for my 3 year old (I also broke down and got myself a pair to wear inside the house (only!) instead of slippers). Getting him to put his shoes on was a constant battle. Moreover, he just started karate so I wanted something easy for him to slip on and off. So far so good! |
Crocs are not ok for anyone. |
Plenty of kids used to get their undone laces stuck in escalators too. |
I am a hater, but my 2 yo wears them. |
Oh for God's sake - How many 2 year olds are standing on escalators? Crocs are water-resistant and vomit-proof. And I hate them, by the way, but will admit that they're wonderful for young ones. |
Oh yes. Clearly they will cause the downfall of modern western society. If you're going to make such a broad statement, you might want to back it up with some facts or reasoning. |
I always found it strange that so many kids were running around in what looks like oversize crocs. BUT - I will admit - they all seem to be running around fine in them. And they do seem easy to take on and off. I haven't caved and gotten any yet for my son, because - they just don't seem supportive enough (and he is not all that coordinated). And I don't have any, and neither does my husband, so he has no interest.
I would be extra careful around escalators, but I am anyways. Such small feet, such big cracks. |
