Everyone has a dog now?

It seems everyone has a dog now. Back in 2003 when I got my first dog a handful of people in my whole neighborhood had a dog but as each year passed I saw more and more dogs.

We don't. It is too much trouble, too expensive. I don't like dog hair at home either.

Agree with you. It gets especially sad and expensive when they're seniors

There is a definite increase since March 2020, too. But not me!

Yes for us! We are late 50's and got our first dog. Got a Spanish water dog. Truly an allergy free dog - at least for us. Still glad we did 2 years later.

Yes. The pandemic puppy phenomenon was real. Including my family. Busy families who wouldn’t have thought about it pre pandemic slowed down, needed something joyful, had time, had money. Not sure what this looks like in 1-2 years!

Yes. Hi got a dog in the 80s who I had for 15 years. And of course when she died I got another dog. I remember I was the only one I knew that had a dog! All of my peers in my 20s and 30s had cats or no pets at all. It was very unusual for a single woman to have a dog. It did limit a lot of what I could do as dogs are a lot of responsibility.

Op here. Exactly. I wanted a dog since the 80s when I was a kid. Couldn't have one due to living in an apartment and being poor. But everyone had a cat. I really wanted a dog to play with and my dream has always been to own a small dog. I have 2 now.

There are so many dogs being abandoned and euthanized at shelters and strays walking around the USA, I wonder what would happen if only "perfect" owners were allowed to have pets?

No. We got four cats since the pandemic. Before we had zero. I would like a dog too but DH and DS are against it: they want cat#5 like a Persian, Siberian or Maine Coon. We currently have 3 ragdolls and a Burmese.

Also, since we take our cats/pets on road-trips we would need a bigger car. My brother suggested a Mercedes Sprinter van but I am holding out for the Tesla cyber truck.

We got 2 ragdolls in late 2020. They're great but they seem to track poop around the house? Am I doing something wrong? We have a litter robot so it stays clean. They aren't pooping on the floor but I think it must cling to their fur or something. They are very finicky eaters so I don't think I could consider changing their food. Do you have any ideas? Do I need to give their bottoms a buzz cut?
