We live in upper NW and are looking for a Spring soccer program for our 9 year old son. He has never been on a soccer team before, and didn't show any interest in playing soccer until a few months ago. I'm hoping to find a league that would be positive and good for a newbie at his age. We watch a lot of soccer at home so he has a general understanding of the game; just not much experience and he wants to learn more and try playing on a team. I'm not familiar with youth soccer at all, so if anyone has any recommendations for a boy in his situation I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

If he is new to soccer, find out if/where his friends play and do that. DC Soccer club (formerly known as Stoddert) apparently has a good rec. soccer program. But proximity and friends is most important to develop basic skills and love of the game
Agree that DC Soccer (formerly Stoddert) is likely a good bet. Lots of kids in NW DC play and there is likely a team from your school/neighborhood that he can join. If he gets more serious, other options are out there, but it's a solid starting place and usually good place to play with friends.

Proximity more than friends. He will make friends on any team just fine. You don't want to be driving any further than necessary. |
OP - thanks everyone for the suggestions, I really appreciate it.
