Ward 6-8 Lottery Ranking Help

Anonymous
Looking for help with my lottery considerations. I'm fully aware of the low likelihood based on historical waitlist acceptances for some of them, but would like opinions on these schools because of their proximity. Any info on good/bad experiences, administration, parent community, before and after care, covid protocols, classroom size and ratio is appreciated. Also if any parents who sent their child to Pre-K3/4 at one of these schools would be willing to have a 1x1 chat, let me know! Thanks in advance!

In no particular order:
Van Ness
Peabody
Maury
LEARN DC PCS - Joint Airforce Base
Global Citizens PCS (Mandarin & Spanish)
AppleTree Early Learning - Lincoln Park
Capitol Hill Montessori
Brent
School-within-a-school
Tyler (Spanish & traditional)
Payne
Lee Montessori - East End

What kind of programming are you interested in? There are a few you certainly won't get into out of bound for PK3: VN, Peabody, Maury, Brent. Do you want language? Montessori? Is this the order you are interested in or just a list of your universe of schools? Global Citizens is brand new so may be the one DCUM has less experience with

If you are OOB, the lottery spots for Brent and Maury are completely wasted. You will not get a spot either place, there is literally 0 chance. Tyler, Payne and Peabody are also very unlikely OOB, though I have heard of it happening off waitlists.

What is your IB? In terms of DCPS, that’s your best bet.

Otherwise, I’d add Two Rivers, maybe Stokes East End, JO Wilson (a possibility even OOB for PK3, at least the last couple years).

What’s your IB school? Many in Ward 6 make do with Appletree, Eagle Academy etc. for 1 or 3 years before Going IB for K at Maury, Peabody, Brent etc.

Van Ness is great! Started in Prek4. It's our inbound and we were wait listed for Prek3. I think the ratios are the same at all schools (set by OSSE, perhaps?) unless a class is under enrolled.

Unless you are IB to any of the DCPS on your list you will probably will not get a spot. What about Miner or Apple Tree Ok Ave?

you might consider adding amidon (for a ward 6 dcps that might have some limited availability for out of bounds pre-k students)

Agree. This is another one that will be tough to lottery into if you're OOB.

Peabody is not possible OOB.

i think van ness. peabody, maury, and brent are all pretty much impossible out of bounds. payne, tyler, sws, and capitol hill montessori are all relatively unlikely (even with the last two being city wide).

i would myself make sure to include your in-bound school somewhere in the list of 12.

My daughter is in the Global Citizen Mandarin program! Great administration and teachers! All the parents here are happy.
