Preschool masking in Virginia

Has your preschool changed their masking requirements with the new EO from the Govenor? Ours is saying masks are still required, for licensing and from the church it is affiliated with. Wondering if the director just doesn’t know what she is talking about or what.

masks are not required for daycare licensing in VA.

If true, that’s deeply misunderstood by daycare administration. Every single daycare I’ve called have told me “they’re required by law.” SMDH.

Same, our daycare claimed they were required by law to follow Virginia guidelines, until Youngkin arrived, but are now claiming the rules don’t apply to them

I own a licensed daycare in Fairfax county and I promise you licensing does not require masks. Masks in VA have been required for 5 and up only since the beginning of the pandemic in VA. It is possible Arlington is requiring something different as they have county licensing as well as the state to which they are subject.

They are recommended but not required by licensing. You need to find a school that is flexible about it.

I believe the 5 and up requirement lapsed when Northam made masks optional. Our daycare isn't requiring them for my daughter that just turned 5 last month.

It is possible the church building where the preschool is located has imposed its own masking requirements, which it has a right to do.

Looking for a preschool that is masks-optional.

Any suggestions?

FAZ in McLean. Yes, secular.

It is true licensing does not require (only recommends indoor masking). Are preschools not connected with a k-12 covered by EO 2? I would love to opt-out my fully vaccinated 5 year old.

So while I'm fine with them requiring masking still, I will say that most preschool directors don't seem to be able to parse out any nuance.

So ours is following any county guidelines to the letter. Despite the fact that these are guidelines, not requirements. I asked a set of rules for my 5 year old, since he is vaccinated, and they couldn't even deal with that. Told me to contact the health department.

We are leaving the center in June, so I am just going along with it. If I had more time in preschool, I'd maybe be more riled up about it.

I appreciate that they are trying to keep unvaccinated children safe. But some of the stuff our center does is bizarre. Like we can't send a lunch box because of "cross contamination". Ridiculous but whatever!
