Lasagna, chicken parmigiana, and/or baked ziti are all good options, you can make them ahead of time and then just heat them up. Or if you have a grill, just do hotdogs/hamburgers/corn on the cob.

Think Italian like spaghetti or any of those baked dishes with a salad and garlic bread. Or some other baked dish like a bunch of chicken breasts or thighs in a casserole dish with a pasta or potato salad and steamed or baked veggies. Could do a Mexican theme with a bunch of taco shells or just plain tortilla chips, seasoned beef or chicken, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and shredded cheese and everyone can make their own tacos/taco salad. Grilling is always good as well. It's an activity and dinner in one!

Self serve taco bar! Mmmm....

Spaghetti, tacos are messy and I assume you are having lots of children. Boil chicken and then put it on the grill along with hot dogs and burgers. Or roast a turkey breast and have side dishes.

taco night!

Messy, but yummy.

Put out a big bowl of salad if anyone wants a taco salad and make the fixings bar super yummy...

Make pizzas and have a big salad.

Enchiladas--I'd make 2 pans.

Homemade mac n cheese and salad

Chili and cornbread with salad.

Baked ziti.

Two lasagnas--one veggie one meat.

As soon as the weather get warm, we revert to grill food for having people over. I'd do hotdogs and hamburgers (and have some veggie burgers in the freezer in case their is a veggie in the group). Can add chicken if th budget allows and you have a grillmaster that can handle several different options.

And then do lots of sides that can be premade (veggies and dip, pasta salads, cut up fruit). Nothing worse than having someone over and then barely seeing them because you are doing food the entire time (or visa versa).

Ina Garten's turkey meatloaf is delicious and feeds a small army. I make it with mac n' cheese (either an epicurious recipe or the stouffer's frozen from the store), broccoli (always a hit with my nephews) and a bunch of cut-up fruit. Popsicles or ice cream sandwiches for dessert. It's my never-fail for families with kids.
