We have 6 people in our household, 4 adults (2 grandparents, 2 parents), a teenager and a tween.
I probably cook 2 - 4 nights most weeks. Kids each cook at least once. Grandpa cooks at least once. Often we get together with extended family one night which is more like potluck. |
| Family of 5. I cook dinner 5-6 times a week. |
| Six kids. We cook five nights a week. One night is takeout, and one night is leftovers/choose your own adventure. Pre pandemic we cooked four nights a week and one night we went out for dinner. |
When you say we do you mean you and someone else cook together 5 nights a week? |
| Basically every night but some nights will include a lot of prepared foods. (Like we might have purchased flautas but I make beans and guac go go with them.) |
| At least 6 nights. |
+1 usually pizza once a week and date night once a week when kids have mac n cheese or hot dogs. All other nights it’s healthy homemade |
| Family of five (me, DH, three elementary kids). I typically cook dinner five nights/week and we get takeout the other two nights. |

Family of five. Cooking is not in my husband’s skill set, so it all falls on me.
I cook at least four nights a week. Three of them are weekday meal-kits. One of them is on the weekend, usually seafood. Sometimes I’ll make an additional meal that’s super simple, like pasta and steamed vegetables. The other meals are delivery (1-2 times a week), leftovers, and frozen food (like Trader Joe’s with a salad kit or something. We spend insane amounts on food. But we eat well and convenience is everything, as we both work. |
| 5 here. I cook maybe 3-4 nights. We go out with friends after sports practice once per week. Have maybe 2 nights of leftovers and get a takeout meal on weekends, but not always. |
I will add kids are elementary/tween. Leftovers are not always available and I don't have the cooking/kitchen capacity to make double the dinner size. So as they get older and eat more, I'll probably have to move to cooking every night |
| OP here. Do many of you have set days for cooking vs dating out/delivery? Or do you just go with the flow? |
I go with the flow. |
| I am the one with grandparents living with us. It’s driven by sports and other activity schedules here. |
