| My son is a current student at Saint Anselms with about average grades. He has a lot of hobbies and does a lot in his free time. Currently in 8th grade and we are looking to get him into Albans for 10th. How likely would he be to get in? |
| Why wait until 10th? |
| The answer is not likely at all. Not sure why you have this plan but you should instead be planning to stay put. |
| Not at all likely. |
| Most of the St. Anselms US kids can manage to transfer to a local Catholic parochial school if needed. That’s the most realistic landing place, but you can always apply to St Albans too. |
| I have an 8th grader too. Why aren’t you applying for 9th like everyone else? |
Are there any parochial high schools? I thought a parochial school was, by definition, affiliated with a specific parish. I can’t think of any around here. For boys or co-ed catholic high schools, here are the ones I know of. SAAS GCHS Heights Good Counsel DeMatha SJC DJO BI PVI |

STA will take 0-2 kids for 10th but they are kids moving from out-of-town and/or kids of VIPs and/or pivotal sports recruits (i.e. a quarterback).
I'm sorry. St. Anselm's is a great school! |
| OP probably is waiting until 10th since 9th grade admissions are closed already |

Admissions are closed. |
That’s what we were told when DC was WL for 9th - only openings for 10th are for unusual circumstances. |
|
For 10th - you need to look to Catholics - unless there is something that is a major hook for your child.
"Lots of hobbies" is not a hook. Nationally ranked Speedskater (I am making this up) might do it. At 10th grade, the spots are for people who are moving to DC - or who are going to get the school positive press |
They are late, but at this point an exception could possibly be made. They should contact admissions ASAP. |
