Hi. Someone just hit my car while I was dropping off my son at the daycare. He gave me a copy of his car insurance. Shall I make the accident claim with my insurance (Geico) or his insurance (United Services Automobile Assn)?
Many thanks in advance for any advice! |
| You call your insurance first. |
| If you do it with your insurance, you can get the car fixed faster. You'll have to pay your deductible, but you'll get reimbursed when the insurance companies determine fault. This can take a few weeks to a few months. If you file it with their insurance, you can't get it fixed until they finish determining fault, but you won't have to front the deductible. |

| How old is your car? Especially if it is newer, recommend you consider asking about a diminished value claim. This is in addition to the claim for repairing damage. The insurance companies won’t volunteer reimbursement of diminished value. Ask them for it. |
| Op, file with his insurance and ask for rental and diminished value eventually |

I would definitely go with your own insurance first.
They will in turn contact his insurance who will then contact you directly. |
| You call GEICO and provide his insuarnce info. GEICO will tell you what to do. |
| Whatever you do, don't deal with his insurance company directly. Let GEICO work it. |
