This show has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and generally good reviews. I like the ominous fantasy feel and the plot seems interesting. However, I live with C-PTSD and I have trouble with jump scares and all the other horror movie stuff.
For people who have already watched this show, how scary is it? |
|
I’m one and a half episodes into it. Not heavy on the jump scares, more a building sense of dread. So far I’m liking it, it’s definitely creepy, plot may get a little out of hand.
I’m a fan of horror fiction podcasts and nosleep/ creepypasta so this is right up my alley. |
OP - thanks! I asked my friend to watch it this weekend and let me know how scary it is. Yeah I figured it would lean more towards supernatural dread and quiet foreboding, I'm really glad that you're enjoying it so far. If you don't mind updating me on how you feel about it after a couple more episodes in, that would be really awesome. [Before anyone snarks at me - if you had the amount of PTSD that I have, you'd be hospitalized. I seriously doubt that even Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have as much PTSD as I have. I function in society because I do a lot of work on myself. So if I need to ask people on an anonymous Internet board for minor help like this, I'm allowed to.] |

I want to see it too, but I’m also worried about how scary it might be. I don’t have any trauma I just don’t like being scared. And I don’t mean Halloween, Friday the 13th, type stuff. I mean stuff like The Exorcist or The Entity, I can’t handle those type of movies. Even the original Amityville scared the crap out of me (some of the later ones were corny).
So it dealing with Supernatural stuff is making me think twice. I’ll be checking back to see if anyone has more updates. |
| I’m wild for mild but loving it (4 episodes in). Nothing gory, really creepy and suspenseful but no real jumping scares. |
What does this mean? |
| thanks so much for the feedback on the show, everyone! (OP) I'll probably end up watching it. |
Just stop. You have no idea what they have to deal with when they’re out there. |
Please report back! |
| I'm binging it now. So far, it reminds me of Rosemary's Baby meets The Shining meets The Ring. I like the mystery and interconnectedness of the main characters. |
And I'm sure you know what OP dealt with? |
DP. Considering no one really pushed back on OP a lot I also found the weird dig at veterans (and actually also to anyone reading who might also have experienced trauma) to be a little inflammatory and uncalled for. No one is walking in anyone else's shoes. |
PP here who didn’t push back and was just looking for a thread to discuss the show. Yeah, the dig was a bit weird (married to an veteran who served in Afghanistan). Anyway, I’ve got 2 episodes left and I can’t wait to see how it all ties together. Anyone ever listen to the source podcast? |
