Omicron false negative PCR

Anonymous
Kids and I test positive with PCR. Kids had a fever for a few hours and I had a runny nose for a day. DH had the chills one night and a continuous runny nose for the past three day. He tested negative on the PCR and is convinced he doesn’t have COVID. I think he has it. Our kids are little so we haven’t been isolating. Is a false negative possible?

Yes I’m the 1st 3-5 days

I know 2 different people who tested negative twice before testing positive.

Another anecdote with my bil. Two rapid negs, one pcr neg, then positive pcr after a few days.

I had a negative home test and a negative PCR 2 days after starting allergy like symptoms (another household member had tested positive 2 days before my symptoms started, so I was on the lookout). 3 days after that I had a strongly positive home test confirmed by PCR. It took until 10 days after the positive test to be negative on a home test.

This is why we have a testing shortage.

DH and one of my kids were positive. I got sick and tested negative on a rapid and took a PCR a day later, to still be negative. I was still sick and now two weeks later I have one hell of a lingering cough and I am not myself yet. I assume it was covid but didn’t see a point in retesting. I stayed home when k was really sick and by that and the holidays it was plenty of time before going back to work.

Since you and your kids tested positive, most likely your husband has it too. Maybe he tested too early in infection?

Honestly What difference does it make?

This is me, too. Pretty sick for 5 days, then lingering cough, congestion, and fatigue. 8 days later I’m mostly fine, but never tested positive on rapid or PCR. DH had covid but none of the kids had symptoms or tested positive.

+1 exactly this for me too

Just keep testing until you get a positive.

lol. I swear I had covid but both tests came out negative. Maybe I didn't shove the qtip for enough in my nose. We had family members with covid in the house, not quarantined, and I had cold like symptoms.
