Here is the data that Montgomery County doesn't want parents to see

Kids in this county are more disadvantaged by parents who can't accurately assess risk than they are by Omicron.

Kind if ironic that she criticizes MCPS for not posting the data, and then doesn't post her data.
The 5% thing always seemed arbitrary to me. I'd like to see the numbers broken down by school, and with separate numbers for staff/students. I don't know why she didn't link to her master spreadsheet.
Also, I'm very surprised that none of my kids' schools seem to be on her 5% list (which is not alphabetical and not searchable through "find on this page" so it's really hard to check). They were at the 5% mark at last check, so I guess the fact that they are now below is good news.

I don't blame leadership for hiding the numbers. A lot of people are sheeps and/or don't know how to interpret the data. They just see the color red and freak out.

These same people who are freaking out initially said to listen to the experts, but now they don't want to listen to the experts (medical) who say that schools should stay open.

If we have learned one thing over the past few years it's that there are people on both sides who don't want to pay attention to facts and data but rather their emotions.

5% over a 14-day period to indicate "red" was completely made up and not based on anything. It never made any sense. I just think that some in MoCo are conditioned to non-sensical, fabricated metrics based on the Gayles debacle.

This has to be the same person posting over snd over again. OP, this is not healthy. Call your doctor.

Same with mine, although she's using 6 days which would explain the difference for ours I believe. The new cases have dropped off somewhat since the surge over the break.

Post headline is sensationalist. I understood exactly what the reporter understood, that the data didn’t present a clear picture by which to make decisions. I was and still am totally fine with the with the entire dashboard being red, and still making the decision to virtual on a school by school basis.

For the dashboard to be relevant it would need a bunch of new data: separation of quarantined students and teachers, new daily cases count of student and teachers, number of students and teachers eligible to return on a specific day(say the next Monday), number of substitutes assigned to a certain school, etc, etc.

+1. Anyone who thinks color coded charts with scary red bars based on arbitrary numbers is a responsible use of data is an idiot.

+1 I think it's time for Jeff to block this person. The sensational headlines is leading to fear mongering.

The fact that an entirely arbitrary percentage of a highly-vaxxed, low-risk population is "infected" is irrelevant to reasoned decision-making.

-All vaxxed and boosted here too.

Regardless of your position on schools open or virtual, the arbitrary nature of the 5% threshold, etc., my hope is that MCPS will ensure that our kids can graduate with the demonstrated ability to dissect and deconstruct data to the same degree as this MCPS parent has. Personally, I'm not confident that most students will develop those capabilities under current circumstances (and probably even pre-pandemic). Understanding data is an essential skill! The SAT and AP Stats only superficially address the importance of data analysis for personal and professional purposes.
