Tipping a dog groomer?

Anonymous
Can someone educate me on this...

I've always bathed my own dog (an Australian Shepherd), and trimmed his nails. In the dead of winter, I decided to treat myself and take him to a local groomer (Vienna Pet Spaw in case anyone wants to know) for a bath and nail trim. He really came back BEAUTIFUL. And his nails, which I'm very picky about, came back REALLY well done. I've had 2 different vets do it in the past, and they've done a terrible hack job.

I paid the fee, but didn't tip anyone. (I'm not sure I actually even met the person who did such a good job).

I'm 6 months pregnant, and I'm going to take him back next week. Can someone tell me would be tip be expected in this situation? I'm normally against tipping "everyone for everything", but I do tip my hair dresser, the cab driver, the waiter. But that's about it.

I believe the fee was around $50 last time. Can someone tell me, would they tip in this situation? And how much would be appropriate?

Do you also tip your doctor?
A dog groomer is a paid and salaried employee.

PP, she is not asking if she should tip the vet. Hairdressers, manicurists and pedicurists are much more appropriate analogies. I don't know if a tip is expected but it is not inappropriate. Anyway, groomers are often individual contractors attached to a pet store and not salaried employees. This is the case with the one we go to. I always tip -- usually about 10%. It also helps when you are having a dinner party and you call for an appointment at the last minute and need your dog groomed.

I have been getting my dogs groomed for 8 years and in that time, I have always tipped the groomers. But I don't tip the salon owners when they occasionally do the job.

I tip 15% for groomers, unless they are the owner of the business.

I always tip 15 to 20%.

WTF??? It's not a "problem". It's an honest to God question. Do you/should you tip a dog groomer? If your answer is "no", feel free to say so.

I always tip 15% - 20%. We've been using the same groomer for almost ten years. She's wonderful. We take care of her and she takes care of our dogs!
