Kia Niro: used hybrid or PHEV or new EV

Anonymous
Probably more of a wish than reality... This year I plan to do A LOT of driving. Some from DC to Annandale daily, and longer trips, maybe as far as GA, to look at colleges.
I'm very practical, looking at Kia Niro because I currently drive a Scion XA, stick and the Niro would be step up but not too big. I want electric but charging stations are few and far between. SO, looking used. Husband wants Hybrid, I want PHEV because we just got solar and I love the idea of zero emissions driving (and free). So far, I'm seeing used in the $25k range, that seems OK. But what would it be pre-pandemic?

Of course I can rent a car through Turo for the longer trips and just drive my little stick that has never given me problems, does everything I need and will never die. But if you had to choose, used hybrid or PHEV or new EV

Charging stations aren't that hard to find around here for your D.C. to Annandale drive, if you wanted to give the fully electric Niro a try. May be some used ones available soon, too; Kia is coming out with an entirely revamped EV Niro this year, plus also their new EV6 or whatever they call it (and Hyundai's Ioniq, also), so maybe owners of the previous generations of Kia EVs will be looking to trade theirs in.

We've also talked to owners of Hyundai Kona EVs at charging stations on road trips, and they all seem pretty happy with those -- same platform as the Niro, slightly different interior and body.
