Men, why do you grow your nails out longer than your fingertips? If you are not a cross dresser, or dress up as Cher on the weekends for money....what is the purpose of this? I have seen many "manly men" who grow their nails out...Why? TIA

Trimming is too much trouble? My DH bite his fingernails short, but you don't want to see his toenails.

gross. when i see my DHs getting long, i shame him into trimming. i think it's just lazy and they don't notice it.

My BIL is like this and I find it weird. He's British, but definitley not the metrosexual type.

Well, I can offer my dad's excuse. He says his nailbeds are quite far back, and so it looks like he has long nails, though they are not longer than his fingertip. He says to cut them all the way back to the bed (the way my husband does, obsessively) would be painful and cause ingrowns.

"True" fingerstyle guitarists don't use picks--they grow their nails out. I of course never learned fingerstyle, because my wife made it *very* clear that long fingernails were the creepiest trait a man could posess.

Maybe so... but what about back hair... or nose hair? Neck moles? I don't know... there's some serious competition for common but creepy traits.
