Can anyone provide feedback on what DC should expect?

Thank you.

Sorry- I thought you were referring to the honors program. Pls disregard.

It may be worth also posting in the special needs forum. There are several older threads with info on Benilde there.

We went through this- Benhilde staff is very professional and welcoming. They met with us (parents) and then talked to our DC separately. Gave us a thorough explanation of their program including students the program is designed to serve, curriculum, elective options, outcomes. We also discussed the strengths and areas to improve for our DC. Benhilde seemed very focused on "fit" for their program and explaining requirements and expectations. It was not stressful at all (and DC has high anxiety). GL!

Thanks so much to both PPs! We are looking forward to this opportunity as it appears a great fit for DC.

Has anyone been admitted to the Benilde program without an interview?

I concur. We went through the process with our oldest and will be doing an interview next week with our youngest. Benilde is a wonderful program for students with diagnosed learning differences.

My DS just had his interview yesterday via zoom. It went well, it was 30 mins long. The director of the program explained the program and how it works to my son, she also asked him about his schooling background. She asked about what accommodations he has currently, and explained that St. John's doesn't lower their requirements as far as coursework goes. He got to ask any questions he had. Then she asked me to come in and we spoke more in depth about his school challenges and strengths, we also talked about his accommodations. She inadvertently gave me his HSPT scores which was cool because we didn't receive it yet. It was very pleasant, not stressful at all. Best of luck!

My child applied for Benilde and I think is a strong candidate. I'm trying not to worry that he has not been asked for an interview. Does anyone know if it's possible he could be admitted without an interview? Has anyone experienced that in earlier years?

They definitely do interviews. But not getting an interview doesn't mean he won't get into SJC. Many kids apply to it and some don't really fit the profile they are look for either due to testing or HPST score.

When you came in, was your DS still there?

Also, was your spouse, if you have one?

No, she dismissed my son to come get me. My husband was shuffling about, he had to leave for work. She just asked if there was a parent available.

If your child interviews does that mean they likely will be admitted to the program, and if not to the program does it hurt their chance to be admitted to St. John’s?
