Infertility Support and Discussion
|
Both of my recent miscarriages were due to chromosomal abnormalities and I have had an initial round of testing done (progesterone, clotting issues, etc) with my regular OB and have found no issues there yet. I'm just wondering if I should start seeing an RE now or if I'm jumping the gun. We have one DC (a very easy pregnancy) already, but have been trying a long time for #2, along with these 2 m/c's.
Also, does anyone know if there is an RE in the Bethesda area who works with miscarriage issues rather than just getting pregnant in the first place? Or are the two very similar anyway? |
| definitely go see an RE!! Why not just try it - perhaps they could help figure out your next steps. |

the RE you go to should and will consider your m/c in his/her assessment and the plan of action he recommends.
i doubt all the RE will want to do is simply get you pregnant without running the reqd tests (probably RPL) as to why the M/C happened. |

I would say go see somebody on the rationale that the worst that could happen is you take a bunch of tests, and everything is normal. Then again, I'm more a type A personality and like to have control (and this is an area where you don't have much!) and felt like seeking the RE's advice gave me peace of mind.
I'm biased based on my experience with my OB, who was really blase about m/cs. They think they are just going to happen, there's nothing to be done, you'll eventually have a baby. To some extent, that's right that even with repeat m/cs, the chances of having a baby are still very high, but how much pain and suffering is realistic? I figure, I live in DC, I have access to amazing medical care, so I'm not going to deal with this like a sad sack in rural BFE. |
| After my 3rd m/c, my GYN referred me to an RE. The RE ran several tests and I tested positive for a clotting issue. I only had a pathologist report from m/c #3 and it was not related to this issue but could have been the cause of the others. I was put on vitamins and extra meds and am now 8 weeks pregnant! I am still nervous as my previous miscarriages were around this time. My GYN is being very cautious this time and has me seeing a Perinatologist. Good Luck! |
