So the winner of the super group gets entry into a 4 team playoff with the CCL champ and some other teams. The winner of this playoff gets entry to the Regional USYS Championships. The Super Group consists of NCSL teams from D1 or D2 that want to enter. Say there are 5 teams that join Super Group. When you play those teams during regular NCSL season, the results count toward the NCSL league and the Super Group. One way to get into the Regional USYS championships is to win the state cup, so Super group is a way to get to regionals without winning state cup. You must register for state cup to be in Super group as well.

No, CCL teams are NOT in the Super Group. The Super group are only NCSL teams. The winner of the NCSL Super Group gets entered into a 4 team tournament. One of those 4 teams is the CCL champ. The other two teams are from New England I believe. The winner of this 4 team playoff gets an automatic bid to the USYS Regional Championships. if one of the teams that made this 4 team playoff happened to win the state cup, they would forfeot their spot in the 4 team playoff because, as state cup champ, they get an automatic bid to the USYS Regional Championship.

OK. So USYS (US Youth Soccer) crowns a National Champion. Usually, after you win your state championship, all the state champs in a region meet and crown a Regional USYS Champion. The Regional Champs meet to crown a USYS National Champion. USYS agreed to form a 4 team playoff for our Region with the winner getting a spot in the Regional USYS championships. The 4 teams included in this playoff are....The Winner of the NCSL Super Group, the CCL champ, and two teams for New England that I know nothing about. To get into NCSL Super Group, you need to be in NCSL D1 (maybe D2 as well but let's just say D1), you need to register and play in your state's state cup tournament, and you need to apply and pay a fee I'm sure. Let's say NCSL D1 has 10 teams and 5 of them applied and created a 5 team "Super group". They play their 9 game season as normal and crown an NCSL D1 champ as normal. However, the four games against the other other Super Group teams in this example as also used to decide the Super Group Champ. The Super Group champ goes to that 4 team playoff. Now, if the Super group champ had already won the their state's state cup, then they already have a bid into the USYS Regional tournament so the #2 team in the Super Group gets the spot in the 4 team playoff.

I believe this was created because NCSL is losing all their best teams to EDP and is also losing clubs and both are losing or lost a lot of their prestige let's say, so USYS agreed to create this pathway to the USYS regionals in hopes it would help these leagues. This is just my opinion.

There are also other ways to get to USYS Regionals without winning the state cup. i think the top two EDP D1 teams get an automatic bid as well.

Hope this helps.
