Years ago I was invited to the Arch Bishop of Brooklyn’s place of residence as part of a Catholic Charities event. The Arch Bishop told me something very interesting.
Jesus shook hands with all 12 Disciples. The Disciples then went out and appointed Priests to spread the word. Each Priest down the chain over time shakes hands with the Cardinal or Bishop when made a Priest. In this unbroken chain every Priest has shaken hands in a chain that leads to shaking Hands with Jesus Christ. He then reached over shook my hand and Told me now you have shook hands with someone in the direct chain that leads to shaking hands with Jesus Christ. |
| That and a dime will get you on the bus |
| It’s Archbishop not Arch Bishop. |
| Handshaking is an English custom. In Jesus’s time they likely greeted each other with a kiss. Remember how Judas greeted Jesus in the garden? |
| Lordy, the mental gymnastics. |
You cannot expect trolls to know the correct terminology, apparently. |
| Aw man. Shoot. I was hoping you meant Jonathan Van Ness. |
This is simply not true. Are you confusing Catholicism with chains like the descendants of Mohammed? Troll fail. |
Catholicism definitely believes in apostolic succession through laying on of hands which is what the OP is essentially describing. It's not exactly "the disciples appointed priests," but it is a line of successors going back to the Apostles. |

Covid broke the chain.
Men kissed more than shaking hands. Did you kiss the Archbishop? I don't think so. Go in peace. |
| apostles appointed bishops as successors and directed that these bishops should in turn appoint their own successors |
| I can see why you would like to believe this, but unfortunately it is not true. |
It is actually a Fact. The apostles were OG Catholics |
| I'm okay with it and I'm an atheist |
