So we got an email yesterday from our Arlington preschool asking us to send our kids in surgical or KN94 masks. Both are impossible to locate quickly at this point. Also our kid still drools and licks his mask (he’s 3), so he uses multiple masks a day. Is it wrong of me to stick to the cloth masks? I can’t afford spending so much money on masks! Ugh! |
If my DS also attends the same Diocese preschool as yours, it’s recommended, not required, at this point, so cloth is fine. We’ll see if it changes in a week. |
That is actual child abuse. Even doctors and nurses are given the option of wearing cappers all day because N95s for 8 hours is inhumane for grown adults. STOP the freaking nonsense people. |
I would continue to send him in cloth masks but buy filters and put a new filter in daily. Then if anyone asks tell them your child is wearing the masks that fit him and that he can comfortably wear, and you added filters for extra protection during omicron. They aren’t going to kick you out over it.
My kid is in preschool and I told them that if they provided the masks and trained her on how to wear/take care of them, have at it! Otherwise, she’ll wear her good-fitting cloth masks as she always has. She takes them off to eat and nap! Who are we kidding here. |
Proper fit is more important than material for these little kids. Vast majority of the KN94/N95 masks won't fit a 2-3 year old kid. In those cases, keep them in a well-fitting cloth mask. |
Yeah we got an email from our daycare recommending KN-95s/KF-94s too. I've gotten the KF-94s for myself before but the retailer is all sold out of the kids versions currently. The predictions are that the DMV is going to peak soon, by the time I could actually get some of these masks it might be past the point of really needing them anyway. Not that I think toddlers necessarily need them to begin with, especially since they take them off so many times throughout the day. |
The only nonsense is that statement you just made. Child abuse? Please articulate the actual harm from wearing a mask. |
