2 hrs delay text - "a possibility" - WTH does that mean?!
Anonymous
It means it depends on how the roads are for the buses. This is not rocket science.

Chance of an actual closure?

I'm pretty sure this is just a smoke screen. They have no idea how many staff will actually show up, and this buys them time. I predict many closed schools, if not the whole system, for staffing reasons. Fingers crossed it's not for too long.

Maybe but there has to be a black ice possibility for the morning since the forecast calls for temperatures in the high 20s after today’s rain.

I just saw that too. I don't think I've ever seen that "possible" announcement before.

Exactly. Who wants a bunch of busses filled with kids slipping around out there? Not me!!! It is much better to be safe than sorry.

I actually think this is the right approach. Give families a heads up about the possibility the night before so they can start making a Plan B. Calling it tonight it too soon and we don’t know what things will look like in the morning (though temps are dipping into the 20s).

Agree. So many have requested more communication and transparency. This is literally saying due to weather there’s a possibility of a delay and updates will happen tomorrow at 5am. It gives some time to alert work, shift calls, etc now for the possibility.

Any update?

I'd much prefer this than canceling the night before only to wake to clear roads.

Yes and they were proven right in waiting since it only got down to 34 degrees so they didn’t need to delay.

Went to work at 6:30 am. Roads are fine. The heavy rain melted a lot of ice.

Exactly. This should be the standard approach.
