Washington Grove Elementary School?

Any feedback on this school in Gaithersburg? I know it is a title 1 school, not too diverse and serves lots of FARMS families. We live in that boundary (and are stuck because of the housing market downturn) and have some uneasiness about sending our DC there.

Have you talked to neighbors who send their kids there? Have you toured the school (what shape is it in)? I live relatively close by and can understand your uneasiness, but the statistics are not as telling at the elementary school level.

If it's not what you want, there are some nice, (relatively) low-cost privates around the Gaithersburg area.

Low income who qualify for "Free and Reduced Meals."

The good thing about a Title 1 school is low class size for at least grades K through 2nd (due to special funding).

NP here - what private schools are around? St Martin's is the only one I know of. We're not zoned for Washington Grove although we live very close to there, but we're zoned for Rosemont. Don't know anything about that, since DC is still in preschool.

The Avalon School is off Diamond Ave. (Catholic). Further out are Butler Montessori and Seneca Academy (Germantown/Darnestown). Barnesville is in Barnesville, but there's a bus pick-up in the Kentlands. It's a little more expensive though ($15,000 to $18,000 range I think). And Christ Episcopal in Rockville (K-8). While it's Episcopalian, it doesn't teach religion. Your child would have to go to chapel each morning though.
