YMCA Aquatics camp?

Anonymous
Any experience with this camp? I"m guessing their general schedule would be the same everywhere, and I would definitely like more information on that (i.e. how much time in lessons vs other pool time vs out of the pool, and what kinds of non-swimming stuff they do.) Would also like any specific insight about the Silver Spring YMCA in particular.

This would be the Jr Aquatics camp for a 6 year old.

Still waiting to see if SS YMCA will have aquatics camp. They did not have it last year.

Registration is open for the aquatics canps on the website-- did that happen last year too and they canceled it anyway?

If the pandemic has done one thing for my family, it's create some distance between surly incompetent 18 year olds and my children. No YMCA camps in the DMV for them ever again.

I’m looking at the aquatics camp (in SS) too. I’m interested in hearing more about any YMCA camp experience.

My son did the Silver Spring Y aquatics camp the summer before the pandemic (7 year old then), two weeks at the beginning of the summer and 2 weeks at the end. He loved and and his swimming skills were night and day from June to August. He is 9 now and doing it for 2 weeks in the middle of the summer. They swam 3-4 times a day and other campy activities the rest of the time. He generally does not love camp because too much chaos and teenagers in charge, but he can deal with it if the exchange is 3-4 swims a day.

They have announced there will be swim camp and it's open. Last time they had it kids had 1 lesson (45min), a chunk of free swim, and some other activities. Mine loved it.

Do they do any before/aftercare?

Do they offer before/aftercare? I don't see anything on the website.
