Lots of star power for an Amazon original movie. Ben Affleck stars, George Clooney directs. Based on a memoir, so not all neat and tidy. Interestingly, I got a little Good Will Hunting deja vu as Ben Affleck's character is very smart but stuck in life and ends up pushing off someone he loves to go out and make it in the world. Even has Ben driving around picking up friend after friend in his car -- just to go to the bar or bowling.
An enjoyable 2 hours. For me, very different, but on par with Being The Ricados. You appreciate the big money that Amazon is spending on quality actors and a solid original project. |
| Lily Rabe is incredible. |
| Added to my watchlist. Carnival Row was another Amazon original with Orlando bloom, among others. Really great all around. But there’s only one season! Same with the John Goodman one about congressmen roommates. That one was terrific! Again, one season! Maybe they changed gears to movies instead. |
| Ben Affleck will get award noms. They may put him up as best supporting male (& better chance to win). He’s good in this. |
+1 I wish they’d renew that creepy series she did with her husband. |
Amazon pay the production company who has made the movie to then show the film exclusively on Amazon (or also in theaters) they don't fund the actual production from scratch. |

Amazon is clearly investing in big names to bring original content. This month’s flavor: the Tender Bar and Being The Ricardo’s.

I'll give it a try, but Ben is really a bad actor. |
I’m no Ben fan but he’s very good in this. Shout out to the Uncle Charlie’s out there. Also love the ‘70s - ‘80s soundtrack. |

NP here. I loved this movie! Ben does do a great job and the characters were so relatable (at least in my family!).
On the other hand, I found Being the Ricardos unwatchable. It was jumpy and weird and I could never see Lucille Ball. I only saw Nicole trying way too hard. |
| already a thread |
| Really enjoyed this too. |
Nope. This thread was first. |
| For teens? |

Thanks for the post OP. Really enjoyed this but found the older kid actor to be a super creep. Like when he was with Sidney and how he’d look at her.
I saw on the wiki page that Ben was already nominated for the golden in this role. |
