My daughter wants one for her dorm. Can anyone recommend a moderately priced machine that is easy to clean?
I only drink coffee hot and have no clue. Thank you! |
| It's called a refrigerator |
Lots of recipes online but try this maybe: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017355-cold-brewed-iced-coffee |
| I just make it with my French press. |
| Actual cold brewing takes twice the amount of beans. $$$ Hot brew in a French press and refrigerate. |
I thought cold brew was made differently and it’s less bitter if you make it without heat? |
| It’s expensive to make cold brew. I haven’t used a machine before but previously used a Filtron. After a while I just started buying the gallons of La Colombe for delivery instead. |
| I make it in a half gallon mason jar and let it cold steep for at least 12 hours - usually more like 24. Strain it through cheese cloth. This would also work in a French press and might be easier to clean up, but the quantity would be smaller. |
| I forget the brand, but we got one for Xmas from Amazon and it broke on the second use. It is moderately priced abs very popular, but if you look in the reviews, a bunch of people report cutting themselves on it too. Sorry I can’t remember brand right now. |

We use mason jars with individual coffee pods (Mayorga in Rockville sells some really good ones - they are basically like a tea bag and super easy to use). You don’t need a machine. I’m not even sure what a machine would do! My brother owns a coffee company and their cold brew equipment is a 5-gal bucket-type thing lol

| +1 Toddy. Been using the same one for 15 years. Cheaper coffee still tastes good so it’s a money saver, as well as being tasty and less acidic. |
| P.S. use these for easy cleanup and faster draining: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SS5X3J1/ |
| Thank you Toddy posters and everyone! Going with that one. |
Coffee Toddy. |
