200 on map-m

Anonymous
My second grader self reported that she got a 200 on the map-m today. Does anyone know what percentile that is? She has ADHD and always makes very careless errors with the eureka math...but I think she has the capacity to do advanced math. She currently does not get enriched math at school. She just got a 504 plan and did testing for the first time in a small room with one other student.

I'm sorry, what does this have to do with covid and virtual learning and snow days?

89th percentile - see p. 20 of this doc: https://teach.mapnwea.org/impl/NormsTables.pdf

Meaning national percentile - it is likely a little lower for MCPS.

My k kid got 195 a few months ago, and teacher does not even say anything about it. If you want to enrich, go for it at home or use outside resources. I do a little bit enrichment at home because I think the k math curriculum is a joke. My child has asd and adhd.

My kindergartener got 199 in Fall. His teacher did not say anything about it. He likes watching Mathantics on Youtube.

Thanks for looking it up, pp. I think she is a high average math student (she typically scores between the 85th-95th percentile on the map-p) but the eureka math curriculum makes her look lower than what she is capable of, due to careless errors - there are so many extra steps required to get the right answer and she gets distracted and makes a careless mistake when she conceptually understands how to get the right answer. I will continue to supplement at home. I know the "enriched math" distinction means an extra ditto a week in mcps in the lower grades and is pretty worthless..but I feel like she would be capable of enriched math with a different curriculum. Oh well...

According to our school, enriched math just means they do all the problems in the Eurek problem set (because the later problems are harder). By this definition, you can definitely “enrich” on your own.

Also, Prodigy is a great game for enrichment. My kid started playing in 2nd, but I think you get kids can do it, too

Unlikely, the chart on the back of the results showed that regardless of what DCUM says, National and Montgomery county are very similar.

The median for MCPS is always a few points higher than nationally.
