When will stores have normal meat again?

Anonymous
After so many trips to Giant and Safeway these last few weeks, brown spoiled looking tiny ground beef sections, or maybe it's deceptively red but when you cook it it's rock hard, and after going to get chicken breast (bone-in) so many times and coming home empty handed

I'VE HAD IT!!! WTH When will we have normal meat again? I am imagining the prices will never go back down. But at least I would like the meats available for purchase, unspoiled, and not hard or weird.

Thoughts?

In 2020 when lots of stores around me were routinely out of chicken and ground beef, I started ordering from local farms. It is more expensive, but the quality is so much better. We just eat more vegetarian dishes than we used to to make up for the extra cost. I found a farm that delivers and it’s amazing to not have to go searching for it and end up disappointed with the quality.

?? Do you look at the specific cut and how it's supposed to be cooked?
Because I've never had that trouble.

I don’t buy meat at Giant or Safeway, honestly. The quality has been awful for years.

Wegmans and even Aldi are better bets. Like PP, I also have just stopped eating as much meat.

I have been wanting to do the same. Can you recommend the farm? Please please

I don't know OP, but hopefully when this wave is over. I gather that the issue is primarily people in meat processing plants being out sick. There was almost no chicken when I shopped on Wednesday, I got the last pack of cutlets (normally I'd have gotten regular breasts and frozen a couple). Hopefully it'll be back to reasonably normal soon.

I have had consistently better quality meat more regularly in stock from Wegman's. (Via Instacart; there's no branch near me.)

Chicken has been MIA at our local Giant this past week. I’m not sure if it’s a regional issue due to snow, or a larger supply chain issue, but it’s definitely a problem at the moment.

Have you checked Costco? They have pretty good meat.

PP you replied to. I see. I actively avoid Safeway and Giant, so wouldn't know. WF, TJ and Hmart (although don't buy meat in the latter) seem to have the usual quality of products they've always had.

Yes, stores have been out of rotisserie chickens for two weeks now.

Farms we like:
Honey Brook Farms (can order online)
Smith Meadows

They usually have all the cuts I can't find at the store, and it's better quality.

I went to three grocery stores looking for chicken this week - no dice. There were also no eggs, Greek yogurt, milk, broccoli, bananas…it was really empty.

Went to the store tonight, no produce or milk either. Shelves were bare.
