makeup for women of color

Does anyone have any suggestions? It has been 7 months since the birth of DS2 and I have not been wearing any makeup. I want to give myself a makeover. I have medium brown skin and dark lips. TIA!!!

I use Prescriptives custom blend and I love it. They not only formulate the color but they can also customize it to how much coverage you want (sheer/matte) put oil control or moisture in it depending on your skin type, etc. It is pricey but I have been using the same bottle for a while now.

Bobbi Brown also has an excellent selection of make-up for a large range of skin tones. Her brand is great, imo, because it recognizes that most women have yellow undertones (not pink) to our skin.

I also use Prescriptives, but I don't use the custom blend. They have a wide range of "off-the-rack" shades which are less expensive and work very well.

I have had good luck with Sephora brand , MAC, and Trish McEnvoy. Ask a sales associate to help do a color match.

If you want to try a custom blend, I reccomend Elizabeth Arden. It is available at their Red Door salons (one is on Wisconsin near the Friendship Heights Metro). You get to pick the type of coverage (full, medium or light) and finish (matte or natural). Best of all the measurement and blending is completely automated so the color is precise and there is little risk of human error.

Prescriptives is also good, but since the blending is done my hand (they may have changed this), they are prone to messing up the color - I once ended up with a nice shade of brownish - purple.

Depending on your specific tone. I happen to love Armani. I think the only place to get it in this area is saks in chevy chase. I also like MAC. I would go to the montgomery mall site first thing in the am so you can get some one on one attention.
