College for poor student with lots of support

Anonymous
DS has anxiety and has always said not to college until a few months ago. He's a 5th year HS student due to a very rough 10th grade, then COVID. Not great grades but a smart kid. Wants to study business, specifically entrepreneurship. Want to point him to a few schools and let him do the work. Wants to live on campus.

Don’t discount a few semesters of community college to boost your student’s confidence and make sure they are college ready. I work with many students similar to your child on my campus and we have lots of support — including programs in entrepreneurship, as well as mentors and advisors who can help successfully launch students such as yours onto very degree or career pathways.

You might find the "CTCL" or Colleges that Change Lives list helpful. https://ctcl.org/category/college-profiles/

High point, warren wilson. Very very different vibes but both supportive and not very selective. Both in NC.

Where is that? Montgomery College?

OP here. Any public colleges that could work? Unless we got a ton of aid these are too expensive. We’re pushing the community college too but he doesn’t want to live at home. We’re in DC. He could do either UDC or Montgomery college. Thanks. Tall order I know.

Perhaps a small, less competitive LAC? I would start there.

So to be clear you want lots of support from the college, but aren’t willing to give him lots of support from you. Cool!

OP here. Yeh, I can see how that would come across. He’s asked me specifically NOT to do everything for him. So, I want to support by pointing him to options, not fill out the paperwork myself.
