ACPS Fails its Students Once Again

Closure without reason. Is that the new norm?

ACPS communication at it's finest. Is finding a competent communication director really all that difficult? Does anyone proof check what gets sent out? They need someone that understands messaging, audience, tone, etc.? Arlington's reason for closing was truly terrible, but at least they owned up to the terrible reason. ACPSs silence is somehow worse, it just shows a complete lack of respect.

They gave a reason...you just don't like it.

For some parents who have no interest in their kids the only reason acceptable would be 'the building has burned down to the ground'. And even then they'd be sending screeching emails at 9AM asking why they haven't rented out the Hilton ballroom to hold classes in.

This was the message - please point out the reason given:
"All ACPS schools will be closed for in-person and virtual learning and extracurricular activities tomorrow, Thurs., Jan. 6, 2022. All staff will participate in a virtual workday."

I’m happy that they seem to have realized that “virtual snow days” weren’t working and they weren’t too proud to pivot. I’d be much happier if they admitted it explicitly. Would also be nice to have an explanation for tomorrow’s closure—is it road conditions, staff shortages, or what? Weird to cancel school with no explanation.

PP must be one of the unemployed, rich, fat, stay-at-homes that love to haunt the school's FB group pages sniping working parents. Total cringe for those losers. They should be named and shamed.

FCPS is closed due to Monday's snowfallout, and MCPS has been in uproar since 7pm today because that's when everyone found out that most of the schools are in the "red" category: more than 5% positivity, which means the health department will consider shutting them down.

Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Stafford, and King George counties have all closed their schools tomorrow because of road conditions and power outages. Guessing there was insufficient staff because believe it or not, teachers actually do commute from these locales.

DCPS is looking through the results of mandating negative test results now so it will be interesting to see what they decide. Philly, which did not require testing for all already has 92 out of 216 schools go virtual this week because of Covid related staffing shortages.

And isn’t it great that we know all these things as opposed to the trash communication from ACPS? It’s embarrassing.

ACPS parents aren't in an uproar about the positivity rate at ACPS schools because we have no idea what it is. There is no test required to return, no testing of staff, no testing centers at schools, etc. Ignorance is bliss.

Classic ACPS. When they do come up with a reason, I’m sure the explanation will be “equity.”

Right, they did not give a reason. If the reason was that some roads are still unsafe, or they did not have staffing due to COVID, I take no issue with it. I just want an explanation.
