DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 4, 2022 – Ford Motor Company said today it is planning to nearly double production of the F-150 Lightning™ pickup at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn to 150,000 trucks per year to meet high demand for the first all-electric version of America’s best-selling vehicle, the F-Series. And beginning Thursday, the first group of reservation holders will be invited to place their orders for the F-150 Lightning.

“With nearly 200,000 reservations, our teams are working hard and creatively to break production constraints to get more F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, president of The Americas & International Markets Group, Ford Motor Company. “The reality is clear: People are ready for an all-electric F-150 and Ford is pulling out all the stops to scale our operations and increase production capacity.”

That’s pretty good. They say 75% of the buyers will be first time EV owners. I think Tesla sold/produced 500k in 2020 which was up from 367k in 2019. Ford plans on making 200k electric mustangs a year also.

bad news for the oil industry. Their lobbyists will need to work over time.

I love that you can use the truck as a backup home generator

I wonder if this is the turning point. Once you start driving an EV it is hard to go back to gas powered. They are just so slow.

The electric f150 is $75k...for a first year, not terribly high range vehicle. This is like tesla a toy for the rich upon which they can build real evs for the masses.

The base model is $39,500, and it's eligible for a $7,500 tax credit. And the range is 230 miles, which is fine for almost any purposes except road-tripping (and then that's what DC fast charging is for). Yes, you can spend $75,000 on it if you want to, but they'll definitely be selling a lot of trucks for less than that.

The range is 300 miles with 2, 000 pounds in the bed.

Clearly you know nothing about full-size pick up trucks.

Many of them sticker for $75k. That’s a high-average price for a well equipped 4wd crew cab half ton. Our Powerstroke Superduty duallie was $107K
