COVID Childcare Scenarios

I’m wondering what the current protocols are for kids who are exposed to COVID (at school or otherwise) and too young to be vaccinated. If my son is exposed at school, I’m theory that means our nanny shouldn’t come for 2 weeks, right? If our nanny’s family member is exposed, should she also stay home for 2 weeks?

What is everyone doing in practice?

I don’t think the recommended time is 14 days anymore. Isn’t it test after 4 days for an exposure?

In the case of your nanny, once the family member tests at least 5 days (I think) then she can come back. My sister had an exposure before Christmas. The health department told us that once she tests 4 days post-exposure (so the fifth day) and she was negative, we could assume she was negative.

Thanks! That looks like the CDC rec, but testing should occur on Day 5 (exposure day is the 0 day): https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html

It’s 5 days. No quarantine if you’ve had covid in the last 90 days and/or are fully vaccinated (including booster, if eligible).

All of this depends on where you are located. Maryland DOH has revised guidelines to match the CDC, but it appears MoCo is wanting guidelines that are stricter.

If your fit nanny is vaccinated then she does not need to quarantine if she’s exposed to a positive person.
