Silver Spring (area) preschool with openings in 3s?

We found out last week that we'll be moving back to DC (we left just three years ago and moved to Atlanta). We lived in Silver Spring (downtown) and would like to be back in that part of town. This is TERRIBLE timing for preschool, and I'm beginning to sweat. Our 3 year old loves her preschool now. It's a church-sponsored preschool (lite on religion), play centered and three mornings a week. Any chance anybody out there knows of a similar sounding school that has openings? I could spend two days on the phone calling every preschool in the area but this seems so much more promising...

Any ideas about how to go about this search would also be appreciated. Success stories from others who have been in the situation might help lower my blood pressure (it's only preschool...it's only preschool....)

Thanks so much!

I love Karasik which is about 5 minutes from downtown SS (near Holy Cross). They may have openings for 3's. They have an accredited preschool program and are an inclusion program for disabled and abled children. We love it there.

SSPC Children's School on University has a great program as well.

I highly recommend Grace Episcopal Day School at Georgia Ave. and Dale Drive. It's a play-based program and is NAEYC accredited. We started our child in the 3s program there and have had a wonderful experience.

Another option might be St. Luke's Christian Day School, at Colesville Rd. and Dale. It's cheaper but has significantly larger class sizes than Grace. Good luck with your move!

Holy Redeemer Nursery School (a Catholic school in Kensington) has openings. It is play-based. I was told the religion instruction involves teaching one bible story per week.

There's a 4 day a week morning program and 3 day a week afternoon program.

I don't know what the class sizes are at Grace for three year olds. At Saint Luke in Silver Spring though the class size is 18 children to two full time teachers. This is a fairly typical size, not sure if it qualifies as "much larger" than Grace or others.

My child was at St Luke a couple of years ago and there was one room that I am pretty sure was around 25 "older 2's' with 3 teachers. I thought that same room had 3's the other 3 days of the week with a similar complement of kids and teachers. So those same 3 teachers taught almost 50 kids when you considered both classes. It may not be the same now as it was then though.
