| Was molecular bio at an ivy, but looking back on things, what I have best memories of was Intro International Relations class. Stupendous professor! |
|
I took an ice skating class with my future husband. We're both horrible at ice skating, but both got an A+, btw.
My favorite academic classes were Women in the Labor Force, Economics of the USSR, and Economics of Consumption (professor on that one was a last minute replacement who basically made the entire class about her studies of the beef market, which was super interesting). |
| The "History of Public Health in America" and "Sociology and Law" were the two most interesting classes I took in college. Bioethics was probably the third. |
| Always go with the professor. A great one can teach you their subject and transmit their passion and enthusiasm. A poor one can ruin an interesting subject. |
| The Dynamic Earth - essentially plate tectonics. They Prof had the best pictures of himself running away from various volcanoes. |
| Was an English major, but took Russian as to read their classics without translation. That language is demanding, but quite beautiful and was ultimately able to do a lot of their paramount authors in the native. But what did it for me was the section leader I had 3 of 4 semesters. Just a wonderful, native speaking lady who really made classes worthwhile. Unfortunately, after 15 years, my speaking skills are almost non-existent and reading skills VERY rusty, but my memories of those early morning sessions will strongly live on forever! |
OP, Katzenstein at Cornell? |
| It's always about the professor |
| When you find a professor you like, take as many classes from them (no matter the title of the class) as your schedule allows. |

Calculus 3 and Applied Differential Equations. Both these classes had excellent professors. Made them so easy.
Also took Meteorology 101 (or whatever) as an elective science. Fun stuff to learn about. Tap Dance for PE. Hadn't done dance in 8-10 years, but knew enough about shuffle-ball-change to get a "Pass" grade. 4 semesters of PE were required at my school. One of the students in my class had taken Tap for 12-15 years and was amazing to watch in our performances. |
| alcoholism - seriously, it was a pysch class. Fascinating. |
|
Ballroom dance!
1 credit, but it sure was fun! |
| Chaucer’s English ❤️ |
|
Biology major - Had to take an Intro to Art (visual, music). I was never exposed to anything in that "world" and it opened my eyes. I can't stay out of the Gallery of Art now!
Weight training 101 for PE credit. Completely changed my body shape that semester. Wonderful! |

Poli Sci major but my favorite classes were:
(1) An anthropology class on primates that included a lab where we learned to identify primate bones. The lab final was just a box of bones and we had to identify how many individuals, their species, sex, and approximate age, their nutrition and overall health. It was so fun and interesting. This predated the show Bones, btw! (2) All creative writing and lit classes -- I should have been an English major! |
