| I'm trying hard to avoid Covid at all costs, but it may be inevitable. Has anyone had Covid before an egg retrieval? How long would you wait before proceeding? Of course, I'll ask my RE but I know she'll just say that once I'm tested negative that we can proceed because there is no solid evidence either way. I guess I'm looking for anecdotal advice or reassurance. We've been through so much testing just to get to this point and it's so frustrating to think about a possible setback. |
| I know! So stressful. I don’t have any anecdotal info to add, but I just wanted to say I sympathize and feel the same way. |
| Gosh I have no idea, sorry, but I think about this too. |
| OP again. Thanks for the commiseration! Covid is awful for so many reasons. Does anyone know if it's standard for clinics to ask for a Covid test before retrieval? I'm almost afraid to ask because I don't want to know the answer. If somehow I get sick and I'm lucky enough to be asymptomatic I'm hoping to be allowed to stay on schedule. DH works in healthcare (not in fertility) and depending on the procedure they often proceed if patient is asymptomatic and just wear extra PPE. |
| At both clinics I went to (GW here and Cornell in NYC), I had to have COVID tests before my retrieval and the procedure would be canceled if I was positive. It was really stressful. |
Ugh! I thought so. Thank you for answering. Praying that we get through this. I had really wanted to retrieve before the post-holiday wave but my hormones wouldn't comply. |
One more question for you PP. How many days prior to retrieval were you tested? I'm hoping early enough that I wouldn't end up all my stim meds for a cycle that will be cancelled. My insurance is strict about the number of refills I can get. |
| I was tested 2-3 days before retrieval, so it was right at the end of the cycle, unfortunately. |
|
My clinic required a negative test within seven days of retrieval. I always did my own test when I started stims and just really hunkered down until the clinic’s test.
It was stressful. But like so many things in fertility, somewhat out of control (assuming you’re vaxxed, masked and careful). |
| What kind of negative tests did GW require? Is a rapid test ok or is a PCR test required? |
| Curious if they are testing anymore prior to egg retrieval. Anyone know for Shady Grove? |
I did FET in April and they didn’t test before my transfer. Not sure about egg retrieval since I didn’t do that, but I would assume it was the same. |
| For my first ER in April 2021 I had to have a negative test to do a surgery- my clinic was in NY and it was a state law. I was staying at a hotel and seeing way more people than normal and was so nervous after paying for meds and monitoring that I would get covid. My second ER in Aug- the rules had changed that if you were vaccinated, you didn't need a test. For FET- nothing. |
At my clinic- it was required for ER but not FET (this was a year ago though) because ER was considered a surgery since you were going under anesthesia. |
