will privates look at homeschoolers?

Unhappy with our current placement (curriculum not a good fit for DC) and contemplating homeschooling for a year before applying to high schools. Is this a crazy idea? DC is a stellar student and would get great recs from current school; we just think we could do so much more at home for a year, and also free up time to do other things. Thinking about calling some prospecitve schools to see how they would view this, but don't want them to perceive us as PITAs from the start (b/c we are complaining about current school). Any advice? Should we just sit tight for another year?

Independent schools do take home schoolers at the high school level (know of several at one of the better known DC privates), but I think someone being home schooled for one year might set off some red flags. If your child is not unhappy at the current school I would try to hang in there for one more year and maybe supplement the curriculum yourselves?
