Does anyone have any experience with either the Adventure Camp or Day Camp at Bretton Woods? I have an 8 year old daughter and I'm wondering if this would be a good option for her.
Pros/Cons? Better experience if you are a member of Bretton Woods? Thanks! |

I am interested in Brenton Woods summer camp but I cannot find much information from their website.
So far, I find both day OR adventure camp pricing online which is quite expensive because I am non-member & need before/after care, and that makes it $770- $780/week without bus transportation & no Thursday overnight. Why do we need to pay additional 12% taxes & fees for camp? They must be really awesome to sell me to send my kid for that price range. |
| Bretton Woods camps are great and great value. Highly recommend. They have a bus service from several DC and MD locations. Lunch and swimming lessons are included. |
| Any new insights on this camp? |

My kids have done both. The adventure camp goes off on treks everyday and does things like learn to make fire from stones, tubing on the stream, etc. They eat their lunches (provided by Bretton Woods) on the go. The day camp is a more traditional camp (think capture the flag) etc, with a couple of sessions of swimming (including a swimming lesson in the a.m.) per day. I think there might be 1 swimming session per day with adventure camp, but I am not sure. You can also customize the day camp to include a daily soccer or tennis lesson.
The Bretton Woods camps are great. Bus service is excellent and they provide lunch. |
| My kids went to the summer tennis camp at Bretton Woods for many years. They loved it! The grounds are beautiful and because of Bretton Woods association with the World Bank and IMF, many of the campers are international. It was a great experience for them. |
| Thank you, new posters! My 7 year old is eager to try new things but I’m worried she’s a bit young for paddle boarding , tubing, etc. She can swim but doesn’t know any strokes. Were your Bretton Woods adventure campers already pretty outdoorsy? |
I think she’ll be fine. My five year old did it last year and was not a great swimmer. We had a good experience with their camps. I believe their camp pricing includes bus service - at least last year it subtracted it out for me as we don’t need it. It also includes lunch. Between the bus, lunch and a little bit longer day it was fairly comparable in price to other camps. Can’t answer your question about adventure camp unfortunately OP. |
We live in gaithersburg, so there is no busing service because we live so close. Is it true that they will take some money off for each week of camp? We are non member, so it will be great news since I will pay higher non member price and aftercare. What kind if lunch do they serve? I have a picky eater, that's why I ask. |
I can only speak to last year, but the price that was shown included busing and when i went through the registration process, it took it off. It was confusing to me. Click through and see if busing comes off. My kids ate the lunch and they are picky. It was kid friendly stuff. Noodles and pizza and whatever but I never actually saw it. |
My non-adventurous kids did adventure camp and they were fine, but they preferred the day camp because there was more variety in the day. With the adventure camp the kids just do one big thing each day. |
The lunches are kid friendly and I think there are at least two choices per day. They include things like spaghetti, chicken tenders, pizza, hot dogs, etc. They also serve snacks throughout the day. And, yes, they should be able to cut out the busing fee if you don't use it, but call or email them to confirm. |
It sounds like the day camp might be the best place to start. She'll get daily swimming lessons and they do a range of activities. |
What does that mean Adventure camp only do one big thing each day? If it is Canoeing day, kids would do canoeing for almost full day both in the morning & in the afternoon? |

Our kid is 4 and turns 5 in second week of August, he is a rising kindergartener this summer.
Do they allow the Bambis to take the bus? We live in DC and would be at the IMF bus stop. The Bambis page seems to allude that they need permission to take the bus. Any experience here? https://www.bwrc.org/camps/summer-day-camp-at-bretton-woods Thinking we might wait to send him to BW next summer, once he's already 5. |
