DCIAA required Wilson basketball to forfeit on their virtual day

What in the world would make this fair? The league gave Wilson basketball a forfeit for not playing on the last day they were virtual. Why penalize a team for a call the district made for something that is behind their control? They didn’t even have any positive players.

I’m not saying the game should not have been canceled, I’m saying it’s unfair that one school got a forfeit on their record for something that is beyond their control. It should be a no contest or the game should be rescheduled.I could see if they had to cancel because their players had COVID hit the league canceled the game because Wilson was not in person that day, not for public health reasons.

I believe the rules are you can’t be absent from school and still play, but if virtual school is the same as regular school, why are they saying the kids weren’t “in school”? The kids weren’t absent if they logged in, right? Why penalize them because the district didn’t have enough subs?

This is completely unfair and all games should have been rescheduled over the past week and a half. Such an unfair punishment. They really do not incentivize people to be honest about Covid.

Why couldn’t they play the game even though they were in virtual? Serious question. Parents are being fed the line that virtual learning is just as good as in person. They were “in school.” Why did they choose to forfeit?

Bigger question I'd ask is are indoor sports are even going to continue in January or are the going to pause as we prioritize indoor school the way things went this week. Sorry to say, but Wondering how relevant this even ultimately is....

Are you talking about the girls basketball team? If so, I believe it will be rescheduled. So it’s not a forfeit.

They didn’t choose to forfeit. DCIAA told them that was the result of the game.

This. It was a forced forfeit. Wilson boys WANTED to play and didn’t have any sick kids.

Agree with this. There's no way basketball is coming back Until February if at all.
